Major Advisor: Ron Sims
Kyle is working with the Sustainable Waste to Bioproducts Engineering Center (SWBEC) and the Utah Department of Environmental Quality (UDEQ) to develop a sustainable solution to harmful algal blooms (HABs) in Utah. His research is focused primarily on the biodegradation of cyanotoxins common in Utah HABs using anaerobic digestion. This form of biological treatment would turn this public health, economic, and environmental liability into the value-added products of methane gas for energy generation and compost. Kyle is also working with the Utah Water Research Laboratory (UWRL) on building septic system demonstrations sites for the State of Utah.
