My research focuses around increasing monoclonal antibody (mAb) production in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells. CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing is being utilized to knockout a telomeric region in chromosome 8 of CHO cells. Knockouts in this region are thought to contribute to the histone deacetylase complex. By disrupting the genes in this area, highly-acetylated DNA may lead to increased transcription rates of mAb-producing genes.
