Ronald Sims research areas including wastes-to-bioproducts, bioremediation, and drinking water treatment have been described in over 200 publications including journal articles, books, and U.S. Government reports. He is currently the Co-Director of the Sustainable Waste-to-Bioproducts Engineering Center and a member of the Executive Committee for the Synthetic Biomanufacturing Institute. He currently leads a team in the development of algal biofilm-based processes and technologies for applications to large-scale open pond, lagoon, and raceway engineered systems. He also collaborates with Dr. Charles Miller on the development of microbial engineered systems for bioplastics production based on synthetic biological engineering tools. Before joining Utah State University, Dr. Sims worked for Mobay Chemical Corporation (South Carolina), a Division of Bayer Corporation, for Research Triangle Institute (North Carolina), and for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Sims is a recipient of the Utah Governor's Medal for Science and Technology.
